Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff is set to arrive in cinemas in a matter of days. The film’s title track, Mast Malang Jhoom is out and it’s an all-out party anthem.

The music video of Mast Malang Jhoom sees Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff matching steps. The song is sung by Arijit Singh with music composition and vocals by Vishal Mishra, along with the female vocals of Nikhita Gandhi. The lyrics are penned by Irshad Kamil while the choreography is by Bosco Ceaser.

Compounding the Congress’s problems in Himachal Pradesh, state minister Vikramaditya Singh quit as minister this morning after accusing Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of overlooking MLAs and disrespecting his father and Congress’s tallest leader in the hill state, the late Virbhadra Singh.

This comes amid dramatic developments in Himachal Pradesh over the past 24 hours that turned an election for a single Rajya Sabha seat to the Congress government’s fight for survival. The party, which has 40 MLAs in the 68-member Assembly.

Addressing the media, Mr Singh said the developments in the hill state are a cause for concern. “We need to go into the background and see what led to this situation. I would like to rewind your memory. The 2022 Assembly elections were found and won under the collective leadership of then Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri, state Congress chief Pratibha Singh and campaign committee head and current Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. There is no doubt that the polls were fought in the name of former Chief Minister, late Virbhadra Singh. There was no banner or poster that did not have his photo. A day before the polls, a full-page newspaper ad had his photo with the message, ‘Remember me, vote in my name’. This is a matter of record,” he said.

Incidentally, then state Congress chief and Mr Singh’s mother Pratibha was being seen as a frontrunner for the Chief Minister post before the Congress leadership chose Mr Sukhu.

“In the past one year, I have not said a word on the government’s functioning. But it is my responsibility to the people to speak out now. The post is not important for me. What is important is my relationship with the people of Himachal Pradesh, a relationship of trust,” he said.

“The way the government has functioned, the negligence towards MLAs, the drowning of their voices has led us to this point,” he said.

Mr Singh targeted the Congress government over its functioning and fiscal mismanagement. “This was repeatedly raised with the party high command, but they did not react the way they should have. I have always behaved in calling a spade a spade. We raised it on multiple forums, but since I am a disciplined member of the party, I know where to draw the line,” he said.

Mr Singh said the youth of the state backed the Congress. “But are we in a position to fulfil the promises to the youth of the state? That is a question that needs to be thought about,” he said.

The Congress government, which held a comfortable majority till yesterday, faces a crisis after six of its MLAs cross-voted in the contest for the lone Rajya Sabha seat yesterday. The rebel MLAs were whisked away to Haryana yesterday, and the Opposition BJP today claimed that the ruling party had lost the mandate to continue in power.

The cross-voting paved the way for the victory of BJP’s Harsh Mahajan in the Rajya Sabha election after a tie, and then a draw of lots, sealed the fate of Congress pick and senior lawyer Abhishek Singhvi.

The Congress’ Punjab leader, Navjot Singh Sidhu, this morning launched a strong attack on six party lawmakers who cross-voted in Tuesday’s Rajya Sabha election – handing the party a defeat in an exercise it should have won with ease – and then appeared to ally with the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The shock Rajya Sabha loss has triggered a political crisis in the hill state – in which the Congress cantered to a win less than two years ago – with the BJP now demanding that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s depleted government prove its strength in the 68-member House.

Mr Sidhu then ripped into “‘masqueraders’… covertly dancing to the tunes of agencies like CBI, ED…” and declared the Congress well-rid of leaders who “prioritise personal gain over the collective good”.

“‘Masqueraders’ (for) plum posts, covertly dancing to the tunes of agencies like Central Bureau of Investigation, Enforcement Directorate, and Income Tax Department, have spelt doomsday for us many-a-times!” the former India cricketer posted on X.

The Congress’ Himachal Situation

On Tuesday evening, as whispers of cross-voting by Congress MLAs turned into reality, the sole Rajya Sabha seat vacant in this round of polling slithered out of the party’s grasp and into the BJP’s pocket.

Six MLAs voted against the party line and the Congress , which till then thought it held 40 of the Assembly’s 68 seats, was left wondering exactly what happened. And then came a bigger blow.

The BJP – boosted by the six rebels – sought a floor test for Mr Sukhu.

The Congress had 40 MLAs. It is now thought to have only 34.

The BJP had 25 MLAs. It is now thought to have the same number.

The majority mark in the Assembly is 35, making this a potentially explosive crisis.

Sidhu’s Barbs

The cricketer-turned-politician’s sharp comments come amid tension (yet again) between himself and the Congress, after he held rallies across Punjab without clearance from the party’s state unit.

Senior leaders Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa have both warned the cricketer-turned-politician, whose run-ins with ex-chief ministers Amarinder Singh and Charanjit Singh Channi were seen as contributing to the party’s heavy defeat in the 2022 election.

The face-off has also sparked speculation Mr Sidhu may be planning a return to the BJP, which he left in 2017. Should he do so, he will join a short but significant list of Congress leaders – which includes Amarinder Singh and former state unit boss Sunil Jakhar – who have crossed the aisle in Punjab.
