US officials have accused Israel of leaking information to the media about the Trump administration’s secret direct negotiations with Hamas. Israel was not informed of the talks between the US and Hamas ahead of time, as per a report by Israel’s Ynet news outlet. This was done as a previous attempt to hold such a meeting had been cancelled following pressure from Israel, the report said. The US decided to go ahead with the talks without informing Tel Aviv of their existence, Ynet wrote. Israel heard about the talks through “other channels,” said The New York Times, citing an Israeli official. The first media reports regarding the existence of the US-Hamas talks appeared less than a day after Netanyahu was informed of them, Ynet said.Citing US officials, the report suggests that Israel leaked the information with the intent of sabotaging the talks. Tel Aviv is opposed to being left in the dark as other parties make arrangements for the future of the Gaza Strip, the report added. n18oc_world n18oc_crux0:00 INTRODUCTION3:05 “WE ARE HELPING ISRAEL”, TRUMP DEFENDS TALKS WITH HAMAS6:06 US TALKS WITH HAMAS SAID TO HIT SNAG AFTER MEDIA LEAK
US President Donald Trump said he wants to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran and sent a letter to its leadership on Thursday saying he hoped they would agree to talk.
“I said I hope you’re going to negotiate, because it’s going to be a lot better for Iran,” Trump said in the interview with Fox Business Network broadcast Friday.
“I think they want to get that letter. The other alternative is we have to do something, because you can’t let another nuclear weapon.”
The letter appeared to have been addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The White House did not immediately respond to a request about that.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed international efforts to resolve the situation around Iran’s nuclear program with Iranian ambassador Kazem Jalali, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
