Grammys 2024: Shankar Mahadevan pens a note after Shaktis This Moment won Best Global Music Album

Singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan is feeling ecstatic after his band Shakti, with Zakir Hussain, won the award for Best Global Music Album at the Grammys 2024. Shankar took to Instagram to share some photos from the event and wrote a thankful message.

Sharing the pictures of himself posing with the trophy, Shankar wrote, “WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from where I have learnt my music and my musical aesthetics would be the band with whom I would eventually perform and win a Grammy. This is the moment from which I can easily say that dreams do come true. Shakti was a dream which came true! Thank you Almighty for making this happen! During his Grammy acceptance speech, Shankar expressed his gratitude by saying, “Thank you, boys. Thank you, God, family, friends and India. India, we are proud of you.” The mention of his home country received a rousing cheer from the audience. Shankar also expressed his appreciation for his wife’s unwavering support, stating, “Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”

Shakti includes John McLaughlin on guitar, V Selvaganesh on percussion, and Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin. During the event, the Shakti band competed with other musicians such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido. The album This Moment was launched on June 30th the previous year.
