Around 25,000 Bangladeshi immigrants in Assam may face deportation due to not registering with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) after being declared foreigners by tribunals. This follows a ruling by the Gauhati high court, which cited a binding Supreme Court decision. The ruling addresses immigrants who entered between 1966 and 1971.

The stampede occurred due to a scuffle between devotees at the ticket counters set up for Vaikuntha Dwara darshan in Tirupati. Six people lost their lives and another 31 were seriously injured
