V Narayanan has been appointed as the new Chairman of ISRO, succeeding S Somanath. Narayanan, currently Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, will begin his tenure on Jan 14, 2025, for a two-year period. With nearly four decades of experience, he has significantly contributed to major ISRO projects, including the CE20 Cryogenic Engine for GSLV Mk III.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the executive council, the highest decision-making body of DU, in 2021. As per the minutes of this meeting, the then V-C took the final call on the name
