Alvin Ailey’s Artistic Director Judith Jamison Passes Away At 81

In a sad news piece today, the celebrated and brilliant dancer, Judith Jamison, who also provided her services as artistic director to Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater for 20 years has passed away at the age of 81, per The Hollywood Reporter. She died on November 9, 2024.

A Philadelphia native, who was born on May 10, 1943, started her training with ballet at the Judimar School of Dance at just 6 years old. She reportedly started her dancing journey with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the year 1965.

Jamison gained immense popularity as a performer at the company and danced there for 15 years. After that she began performing as a guest artist with other ballet companies and on Broadway, per Ailey’s website.

As per the website, the late artist made her comeback at Ailey, but this time to work as Artistic Director and provided her services there for two decades. She was honored last year during the company’s annual opening night gala celebrating its 65th season.

In her impressive decades-long career, Jamison was honored with numerous awards and accolades including A Primetime Emmy Award and American Choreography Award for her contribution to a PBS documentary, A Hymn For Alvin Ailey.

While previously conversing with The Hollywood Reporter, Jamison shared that number and age mattered. She talked about loving it when people say that it did not matter. Jamison shared that it mattered when one has been dancing for the most part of their life.

The late performer further expressed, “At 80, everything doesn’t work the same way. And that’s the challenge, finding out, what can I do? What can’t I do? But I’m loving it.”

A spokesperson of Ailey, Christopher Zunner, revealed to The Associated Press that Jamison, who was surrounded by her close friends, passed away on Saturday after a brief disease in New York. Zunner added, “We remember and are grateful for her artistry, humanity and incredible light, which inspired us all.”

GloRilla Celebrates As Taylor Swift Shares Her Song With Sexyy Red: ‘Big Stars Love Me’

GloRilla has been receiving recognition from “all the big stars,” including Taylor Swift, who recently shared the rapper’s song on Instagram. The 25-year-old rapper expressed her excitement upon learning that Swift used her song WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME featuring Sexyy Red in a video teasing the return of the Eras Tour with Olivia Benson (Taylor’s cat) in her arms.

To GloRilla’s surprise, she couldn’t believe when she saw on her phone that on October 18, the 34-year-old Swift posted the video and stated that it made her feel great saying that the most famous people support her work. On November 8 at the Femme It Forward’s Give Her FlowHers Awards Gala in Beverly Hills, California, the TGIF rapper told People magazine, “I just was tweaking. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. All the big stars love me.’ I felt good.”

In the video, Swift can be seen cradling Olivia while walking through an empty Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, the song can be heard in the video. The Look What You Made Me Do hitmaker captioned the clip “Back in the office,” hinting at her return at the Eras Tour. Meanwhile, Sexyy Red took to X, where she also expressed some love for Swift. She reposted the clip and wrote, “Okayyyy @taylorswift13” with a bunch of heart-eyes emojis.

Swift’s boosting the song from the rapper’s debut album Glorius, helped it gain some much-needed recognition, which eventually enabled it to perform well on the Billboard Hot 100 chart to number 29.

It’s been a successful year for the Wanna Be rapper as she also received the Big Femme Energy award at the Give Her FlowHers gala, as well as a nomination for the 2025 Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song where for the track Yeah Glo!

The Blessed rapper described this as a turning point in her career as she went viral by having Rihanna use her song in a video and partying with Beyonce, she felt on top of the world while still being quite humble and grateful for the work she has done so far. Alongside GloRilla, Jill Scott, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, Doechii, Lady London, and Nija also received awards for their outstanding success in show business.

Donald Trump Wins Arizona, Sweeps All 7 Swing States

Donald Trump on Saturday won Arizona, completing the Republican’s sweep of all seven swing states in the November 5 US presidential elections. He retained the state and its 11 electoral votes to the Republican column after Democrat Joe Biden’s 2020 victory.

Trump’s win over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris also marks the 78-year-old’s second victory in Arizona since 2016.

According to the latest figures, Trump has so far got 312 electoral votes, well past the 270 needed to win the race to the White House. During his successful presidential campaign in 2016, he received 304 electoral votes.

US media have declared Trump the winner in more than half of the 50 states, including swing states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, all of which voted Democratic in the last election. He also won the battleground states of North Carolina and Nevada.

He won wider margins than before, despite a criminal conviction and two impeachments while in office.

On the other hand, Harris, who replaced 81-year-old Biden as the Democrat nominee in July, stands at 226.

With Donald Trump’s defeat of Kamala Harris, Republican and Democratic presidents will alternate control of the White House for the fourth straight term, a level of volatility between the parties not seen in the United States since the late 19th century.

Biden, who dropped out of the race over age concerns, will meet Trump at the Oval Office on Wednesday.

Trump 2.0

Ahead of his inauguration on January 20, Donald Trump has started to assemble his second administration and named campaign manager Susie Wiles to serve as his White House chief of staff.

Wiles, 67, is the first woman to be named to the high-profile role.

Other candidates who could find a place in Trump 2.0 are Elon Musk, the world’s richest man who could get a job auditing government waste, former ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell, who is seen as a frontrunner for the secretary of state position and Robert F Kennedy Jr, whom Trump has pledged a “big role” in health care.
