Mani Ratnam says he’s a big fan of Sai Pallavi and wants to work with her; Premam actress’ reaction is unmissable

Amaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi in the lead roles, will be released in theaters on October 31, 2024. At the recent audio launch event, director Mani Ratnam appeared as a guest and praised the actress immensely.

Speaking at the audio launch, Mani Ratnam said, “Sai usually does roles that appear so real, and now she has done a real role as well, which I’m sure she’s done well. I’m a big fan and I hope someday I’ll get to work with you.”

The upcoming movie Amaran is a biographical action flick that focuses on the life of martyred soldier Major Mukund Varadarajan. With Sivakarthikeyan playing the lead role of Mukund, Sai Pallavi dons the role of his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese.

The movie directed by Rajkumar Periasamy is based on a book called India’s Most Fearless: True Stories of Modern Military Heroes by Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh which contains a segment on Major Mukund. Aside from SK and Sai, the film co-produced by Kamal Haasan also has actors Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, Lallu, Shreekumar, Shyam Mohan, Ajaey Naga Raaman, Mir Salman, and many more in key roles.

Moving ahead, director Mani Ratnam is currently in the post-production works of his next movie called Thug Life starring Kamal Haasan. The film which marks the duo’s reunion after decades is said to be an action drama that has an ensemble cast of actors like Silambarasan TR, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Ashok Selvan, Pankaj Tripathi, Nassar, Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami Gopikumar, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and many more.

On the other hand, Sai Pallavi is also set to appear as the female lead in Naga Chaitanya’s upcoming movie called Thandel. The film directed by Chandoo Mondeti is said to be a story featuring a man from the fishermen community.

Aside from Thandel, the actress also has the much-awaited Ramayana movie in the making starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Moreover, the actress will also be seen in a Bollywood film alongside Junaid Khan.

Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman are ultimate work besties on the set of Lioness, according to the former. Saldaña, who not only acts but also executive produces the Paramount+ series alongside Kidman, spoke to People ahead of the second installment of the show’s premiere on Sunday, October 27, sharing that revisiting the adrenaline-pumping drama was made easier with Kidman’s involvement.

“I feel like it gets easier to collaborate with people that you’re familiar with, and we do have a beautiful friendship—it’s genuine,” Saldaña said.

The pair explained to the publication that they have a lot in common, which helps give depth to their friendship. Both of them, for instance, are Geminis, Saldaña mused, and both are also extremely devoted to their families.

Saldaña shares three sons with Marco Perego: Cy and Bowie, 9, and Zen, 7. Kidman, for her part, has four children whom she shares with her husband Keith Urban and ex-husband Tom Cruise, including Bella Kidman Cruise, 31, Connor Cruise, 29, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, 16, and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban, 13. Kidman’s first two children are adopted.

Saldaña, in her conversation with People, also praised her co-star’s dedication to her craft, saying that Kidman’s love for what she does brings a level of preparation to the sets, which ultimately streamlines the process for everyone involved. The actress said she proudly mentions her friendship with Kidman to her other friends as well.

Additionally, Saldaña spoke about the bond she shares with other cast members on the show. She noted that the whole ensemble has developed a sense of fellowship and generosity that comes in handy when makers are looking at multiple seasons of the show.

Season 2 of Lioness will see the CIA’s fight against terror moving closer to home, with Joe (Zoe Saldaña), Kaitlyn (Nicole Kidman), and Byron enlisting a new Lioness operative to infiltrate a previously known threat. With pressures mounting, Joe will have to confront the profound sacrifices she has made for the Lioness program.

New episodes of Lioness will stream on Paramount+ every Sunday until December 8.

Days Before Retirement, Chief Justice Speaks On PM’s Ganesh Puja Visit Row

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud has responded to the massive political row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to his home for Ganesh Puja, saying no judicial matters are discussed in such meetings. Responding to a question at the Loksatta annual lecture, the Chief Justice said it is a practice for Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of high courts to hold regular meetings.

“People think why these meetings. The maturity of our political system lies in the fact that there is a great deal of deference to the judiciary even in the political class. It is known. The judiciary’s budget is from the state. This budget is not for judges. We need new court buildings, new residences for judges in districts. For this, the Chief Justice and Chief Minister’s meetings are necessary,” he said.

The Chief Justice said he had earlier served as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. “When the Chief Justice is appointed, they go the Chief Minister’s house. Then, the Chief Minister comes to the Chief Justice’s house. These meetings have set agenda. Say, 10 projects are going on in the state, what is the infra, the budget? The Chief Minister informs the priorities for these projects. Wouldn’t you have to meet for this? If this happens over letters, the work will never get completed.”

“There is a great deal of maturity in the political system. In the course of these meetings, never would the Chief Minister ask about a pending case. On August 14, and January 26, a wedding or mourning, the Chief Minister and the Chief Justice meet each other, there is no bearing on judicial work. People ask what deals are happening. This is just part of a robust dialogue,” he said.

Visuals of the Prime Minister visiting the Chief Justice’s residence and participating in the Ganesh Puja had sparked a massive political row, with a section of the Opposition saying that such meetings raise doubts.

Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP and a leader of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), had suggested that the Chief Justice should recuse himself from a case linked to the tussle between Shiv Sena UBT and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

“Look, it is Ganpati festival. How many people’s houses has the Prime Minister visited so far? I don’t have the information. Ganesh festival is celebrated in many places in Delhi, but the Prime Minister went to the Chief Justice’s house, and the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice together performed the Aarti. Our knowledge of God is such that if the custodians of the Constitution meet political leaders in this manner, then people have doubts,” Mr Raut said.

“It seems to me that there is a tradition that in such cases, if there is a party and the judge has or is seen to have any relation with it, then he dissociates himself from that case. So, I feel that Chandrachud sahab should dissociate himself from it,” he said.

Manoj Jha, RJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP, had said the independence of institutions must be seen. “Ganpati puja is a personal issue, but you are taking a camera. The message it sends is uncomfortable. The Chief Justice of India and the Prime Minister are tall personalities. So what can we say if they agreed to put out these photographs in the public domain.”

BJP had responded sharply to the Opposition’s criticism. Union minister Bhupender Yadav said the people who applaud the presence of Prime Ministers at Iftar parties “find their guts twisting and turning” on seeing the Prime Minister at the Ganesh Puja at the Chief Justice’s home.

“The same people who applaud and encourage presence of Prime Ministers at Iftars find their guts twisting and turning when they see PM Modi perform Ganpati Poojan at CJI DY Chandrachud’s residence. The executive and judiciary praying before Gods revered by crores of devotees across India reflects the real strength of Indian secularism. Deal with it,” he said in a post on X.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla hit out at the Opposition criticism, commenting that a 2009 Iftar party hosted by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was attended by the then Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is set to retire on November 10. Justice Sanjiv Khanna will succeed him as the head of the Supreme Court.
