Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut sentenced to 15 days in jail in defamation case filed by BJP leader’s wife: reports

A Mumbai magistrate’s court has convicted MP Sanjay Raut in a defamation case filed by Professor Medha Kirit Somaiya, sentencing him to 15 days’ simple imprisonment and a Rs 25,000 fine. The case involved defamatory statements made by Raut against Medha, which were published and circulated widely.

Mahalakshmi, a 29-year-old woman from Bengaluru, was allegedly killed and dismembered by her partner, Mukti Ranjan Ray, following disputes over marriage. Ray was later found dead, hanging from a tree in Odisha.
