Margaret Qualley REVEALS How She Took ‘New Risks’ For Her Role In Horror Sci-Fi The Substance

Margaret Qualley, who famously appeared in the Oscar-winning comedy/fantasy Poor Things and 2019’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, among others, is stepping out of her comfort zone with the recent horror sci-fi The Substance. Speaking to PEOPLE, the actress revealed why she found her role as Sue—a younger version of her co-star Demi Moore’s character, Elisabeth Sparkle—challenging.

Her character, who is hypersexualized throughout the film, is complex to portray, but that’s what Qualley strives for. “I think I’ve intentionally gone the other direction throughout my career,” she told the outlet. The body horror film features plenty of nudity and explicit scenes as the two women who share the same conscience inject themselves with an illegal serum.

“I knew it was going to be a big challenge for me,” the actress said. However, she also admitted that nudity and obscenity serves a huge purpose for the story. “It’s a road you have to go down in order to bring this to life. And I was excited about that challenge,” she added.

Ultimately, as an actor, it’s essential to push one’s limits to keep things interesting and exciting. “I think you in the end, gain more of yourself when you face that whatever might be an individual’s discomfort, fear,” she said. “I don’t really look at it as fear as much as just vulnerability.”

Further praising her film, Qualley explained its universality and the connection her and Moore’s characters share. Both Elisabeth and Sue yearn for youth, fame, and recognition—everything society is after. “We’ve all chosen, highlighted different parts of ourselves to present to the world, for how you want people to see you,” she explained.

Qualley noted that her character, Sue, presents a version of herself to the world that might not be completely true to herself. However, the attributes she tends to hide do exist deep within her. According to the official synopsis, the film revolves around “a fading celebrity decides to use a black-market drug, a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself.”

The Substance is in theaters now.

Coldplay India Tour 2025: Passes get washed out within hours despite additional shows; fans waiting in queue express disappointment

Oh, what a day it was! September 22, 2024, witnessed the historic, sold-out bookings of Coldplay’s India Tour 2025, and all within hours. On Sunday, the Let Somebody Go band announced the Mumbai leg of their Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025, and their Indian fans were over the moon. Initially, the dates announced were January 18 and 19, 2025, but due to massive demand, another show was added at noon on January 21st.

However, despite offering three shows, the tickets sold out in no time, leaving many fans disappointed. The ticketing website crashed initially, some fans got stuck at the payment stage, and many couldn’t get through the queue. Social media quickly filled with frustrated fans expressing their helplessness at not being able to secure tickets.

One angry fan wrote, “I have just been crying. All those people hoarding the tickets just to resell them for more money. Bhagwan maaf nahi karega (crying emojis).” Another commented, “Let’s apply for the post of a security guard at DY Patil Stadium. I guess that’s the only hope left now.” A third added, “Genuinely so gutted. People who couldn’t name five songs have got tickets.”

Addressing the sudden crash of the ticketing system, a spokesperson from BookMyShow shared, “…We implemented a queueing system to manage the overwhelming demand and addressed issues caused by suspicious and malicious traffic within minutes. This caused a brief delay but ensured minimal disruption for genuine fans.”

Coldplay’s concert will be held at Mumbai’s DY Patil Sports Stadium, with ticket prices ranging from ₹2,500 to ₹12,500, and ₹35,000 for the lounge area. This 2025 tour marks Coldplay’s return to India since their last show here in 2016.

Special Team To Probe Alleged Irregularities In Tirupati Temple Body

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the irregularities in the Tirupati temple body amid allegations of animal fat being used to adulterate the ghee for the temple laddoos.

Earlier, the ruling Telugu Desam Party had alleged that the former Chairman of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, and former executive officer AV Dharma Reddy had committed several irregularities in temple management over the last five years.

The party had said they will be held accountable.

The Chief Minister had said he would “clean up” the system, alleging that the irregularities had crept in during the rule of the erstwhile YSRCP government. “Many not-so-sacred things were done at Tirumala” over the last five years, he had said.

He had also accused his predecessor at the top post, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, of appointing people close to him as TTD board members and using it for political gains.

Last week, the Chief Minister had red-flagged a report from a state-run lab in Gujarat, which said samples of the ghee from Tirupati tested positive for fish oil, beef tallow, and lard during the rule of the erstwhile government of YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

The report was dated July 17 – Mr Reddy’s YSR Congress has pointed to, questioning the delay.
