Was Men In Black Offered To David Schwimmer? Here’s What Friends Actor Revealed About Turning Down The Movie

David Schwimmer opened up on being offered one of the popular movies of the decade, Men in Black. However, the actor turned down the Will Smith starrer.

In conversation with Cush Jumbo on his podcast, Schwimmer claimed that he does not regret his decision to not do the film, he believes making an appearance in the film would have given a good boost to his career in movies. Opening up about the reason for rejecting the film, the actor revealed that the project was clashing with his dates on Friends.

The 1997 film starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones in the lead roles. With the movie releasing in theaters, Smith went on to become the star in the film industry, along with the former, who was already a legend in Hollywood.

While talking to the podcast host, the Madagascar actor shared, “[It] was a brutal decision.” He further added, “I had just finished filming The Pallbearer, my first film with Gwyneth Paltrow, and there were high expectations of that, which didn’t come true (Laughs). It was kind of a bomb but there were high expectations and the studio, which was Miramax, wanted to lock me into a three-picture deal at a fixed price and I said I would do that if I got to direct my first movie.”

Schwimmer further revealed that he negotiated with the production house that they allow the actor to direct his entire theater company for the film, and he will act in the upcoming three movies of the studios. The Tangled actor stated, “All these unknown actors but I was going to put them on the map, basically. I was going to let everyone discover the talent of this amazing company.”

The Wonder Years actor further shared that he came across a wonderful script, and the movie went into its pre-production stage. While everything worked well, the movie still did not perform well on the box office. The actor recalled that the post-production of the film overlapped with Men in Black and hence could not attract as much audience as he expected.

Speaking of his decision to drop out of the Will Smith starrer, Schwimmer claimed, “Look, I’m really aware, whatever 20 years later, maybe more, [Men in Black] would have made me a movie star,” he added. “If you look at the success of that film and that franchise, my career would have taken a very different trajectory.”

Meanwhile, David and his five other co-stars got a good taste of success through their iconic 1994 sitcom Friends. The show was watched across the countries and grabbed viewership in millions.

‘I Can See I’m Exhausted’: Florence Pugh Reveals Why She’s Taking Acting Break For The ‘First Time Ever’ In Her Career

Florence Pugh has been delivering hits after hits with films like Christopher Nolan’s Oscar winning Oppenheimer and Denis Villeneuve’s blockbuster Dune: Part 2. Having recently completed Marvel’s Thunderbolts and in between promoting her upcoming romantic drama We Live in Time, Pugh has been hustling non-stop for a while.

Despite being a “work manic” the actress realized she needed a much deserved break. “[It’s] the first time ever in my career when I’ve actually asked for a summer break,” she said during her interview with British Vogue. The Little Women actress recalled having an epiphany last year about “how much of my life I’ve missed” and decided to take a breather from work.

After enjoying her summer break, Pugh attended the Toronto International Film Festival for the world premiere of her film We Live in Time with her co-star Andrew Garfield. The film is a decade spanning tragic yet wholesome love story of Tobias (Garfield) and Almut (Pugh) who accidentally meet, fall in love, build a life and fight a major battle together. Helmed by John Crowley the film follows a non-linear pattern of story telling, jumping multiple timelines.

It starts with Almut’s cancer diagnosis and is followed by key moments from her and Tabias’ life — their first meeting, birth of their daughter etc. To film the scenes where Almut is battling the terminal illness, Pugh had to appear bald. The actress took the leap and shaved her head in real life and called it a “no-brainer.”

She explained how at one point viewers will see her character shaving her head — also featured in the trailer — and it had to look and be authentic. “You have the honor of doing something to yourself that is totally in support of the character,” she added.

However, she admitted it felt “bizarre” and had a weird effect on her body. “My head was so sensitive and so many people were trying to touch it and it was so alive,” she recalled. “My body went into a bit of trauma from it. I was cold all the time.” Nonetheless, she was bold enough to commit to her character which is something she’s known to do.

We Live in Time will be released in theaters on October 11.

Wolfs: Director Jon Watts Reveals His Plans of Bringing George Clooney And Brad Pitt Together Again On-Screen

The Oceans’ duo, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, were heavily praised at the Venice Film Festival, where the movie was first premiered. One of the highly anticipated films of the year has been directed by Jon Watts, who is also known to direct the Tom Holland starrer, The Spider-Man Trilogy. In conversation with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker opened up on how he staged the idea of bringing two veteran actors back on screen with the crime-comedy genre.

Explaining how Watts got the actors to sign up for the film, the director went on to state that it all started in New York, where he got the motivation to pen the film. Watts explained to the media portal, “That was so stupid of me. I wrote the movie; I could have written it anywhere. I could have written it at any time of year. I chose New York at night.”

The director went on to further say, “I live here, I love New York, and I’ve been shooting Spider-Man movies that are supposed to be in New York in Atlanta for the last seven years.”

Meanwhile, Watt revealed that both Pitt and Clooney were looking for projects to work on at the time. The duo read the script and liked Watt’s idea. The filmmaker revealed, “It’s one of those ideas that doesn’t really work unless it’s the two of them. That’s where it came from.” He further added, “But the big difference is that you don’t often get the opportunity to pitch something like that to those two guys.”

In the movie, Pitt and Clooney portray the roles of Fixers, who are called at the same address by Amy Ryan, to cover up the crime. Though not liking each other’s techniques of handling the job, the duo is forced to work together in order to get it done.

According to the synopsis of the film, “Hired to cover up a high-profile crime, a fixer soon finds his night spiraling out of control when he’s forced to work with an unexpected counterpart.”

As for the cast members of Wolfs, Brad Pitt and George Clooney are joined by Amy Ryan, Poorna Jagannathan, and Austin Abrams. The movie will be available to watch in a few theaters on September 20, and on Apple TV+ soon after.
