Aadar Jain announced his engagement to his girlfriend Alekha Advani. The actor is the son of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ranbir Kapoor’s aunt Rima Jain. He went down on one knee on a beach by the setting sun. And the photos are dreamy.

Aadar Jain took to his social media handle to share photos with his now fiance Alekha Advani. One photo sees the two on their knees as Aadar puts a ring on Alekha’s finger. The setting was as romantic as it gets with rose petals on the sand and an LED “marry me” sign in the backdrop.

Aadar wrote, “My first crush, my best friend and now, my forever,” with a ring and heart emoji. The engaged couple twinned in white for the special occasion.

Reacting to the post, Kareena Kapoor Khan wrote, “Yayyyyyyyy. Mehendi laga ke rakhna …doli saja ke rakhna.” Karisma wrote, “Congratulations you both.” Meanwhile, Ananya wrote, “Congratulations!!!!! Soooooo beautiful…”

Aadar and Alekha made their relationship official in November 2023. They also attended a Diwali celebration hosted by Kareena and Saif Ali Khan.

The Supreme Court today came down heavily on ‘bulldozer justice’, questioning how a house can be demolished just because it belongs to an accused or even a convict in a criminal case. The court also proposed that it must issue pan-India guidelines to be followed before demolishing homes.  

Appearing for the petitioner, Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave sought a direction from the court to ensure that ‘bulldozer justice’ is not meted out across the country.

Addressing the bench of Justice BR Gavai and Justice KV Viswanathan, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta submitted that no immovable property cannot be demolished just because the accused is involved in a criminal offence. “Such demolition can only happen if the structure is illegal,” Mr Mehta said. The Solicitor General, however, argued that the matter is being misrepresented before the court.

“If you are accepting this, then we will issue guidelines based on this. How can demolition be just because he is an accused or even a convict,” Justice Gavai said.

“If construction is unauthorised, fine. There has to be some streamlining. We will lay down a procedure. You are saying demolition only if violation of municipal laws. There is a need for guidelines, it needs to be documented,” the bench said.

Justice Viswanathan asked why directions cannot be passed to avoid such cases. “First issue notice, give time to answer, time to seek legal remedies, and then demolition,” he said.

The bench stressed that it is not defending illegal construction. “We will not protect any illegal structure obstructing public roads, that includes a temple, but there should be guidelines for demolition,” it said.

Senior Advocates Dushyant Dave and CU Singh, appearing for the petitioners, pointed to the demolition exercise in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. The lawyers said that in some cases property rented out was demolished. “They demolished 50-60 year old homes because son or tenant of the owner is involved,” Mr Singh said.

Another matter that came up was demolition of a house in Rajasthan’s Udaipur after a student living there stabbed his classmate. “If a man’s son is a nuisance, demolishing his home is not the right way,” Justice Viswanathan said. The court said it will hear the matter again on September 17 and invited suggestions to tackle this issue.

Justice Gavai said that an affidavit by the Uttar Pradesh government states that immovable property can be demolished only as per a procedure established by law. “We propose to lay down some guidelines on pan-India basis so that concern raised is taken care of. We appreciate stand taken by the state of UP.”

‘Bulldozer justice’ has become increasingly common in several parts of the country where homes of accused in criminal cases are demolished. The practice has come under strong criticism, with many questioning how the action can be taken even before allegations against a person are proved. They have also pointed why the administration must punish the whole family for the crime of one.

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate Monday in connection with alleged irregularities in appointments to the Delhi Waqf Board and leasing of its properties believed to be worth Rs 100 crore.

The AAP leader’s arrest follows dramatic scenes from the federal agency’s raid on his Delhi residence this morning; in a video statement on X he accused the ED of acting insensitively, stating the raids had upset his mother-in-law, a cancer patient operated on last week.

“The ED has come to arrest me on the pretext of a search. My mother-in-law is a cancer patient… she was operated on four days ago. She is at my home. I informed the ED of this…”

Visuals from this morning showed an elderly woman lying on a bed as Mr Khan speaks to a man – possibly an ED officer – and asks for four weeks’ time. To this the man responds, “Why do you believe we are here to arrest you…” and Mr Khan shoots back, “Why else are you here?”

A woman, who might be Mr Khan’s wife, is heard saying, “What do you need to search at a three-room house. Why do you have to turn my home upside down every time?”

“She has cancer and she has been operated upon. I will take you to court if anything happens to my mother. She can’t even stand,” the woman, possibly Mr Khan’s wife, adds.

Mr Khan, meanwhile, has also rubbished the allegations and accused the ED of “harassing me for two years… slapping false cases (and) creating problems”. “They are harassing our party (the AAP) … they want to break our party… we will not get scared,” the MLA from Delhi’s Okhla said.

AAP Reacts, Slams ED

Mr Khan’s posted a message of support on X, declaring “revolutionaries will not bow down to the tyranny of a dictator” and accusing the agency of acting over a “fake case”.

Amanatullah Khan becomes the fourth high-profile AAP leader to be arrested by a central agency since ex Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in February last year; the others include Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The latter three were arrested – Mr Sisodia and Mr Kejriwal by the ED and Central Bureau of Investigation, for apparent good measure – in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.

Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia have received bail; in Mr Sisodia’s case bail was granted last month, after nearly 18 months in prison, with the Supreme Court calling his prolonged incarceration without a trial (or any hope of one in the near future) a “travesty of justice”.

Mr Kejriwal remains in jail, having secured bail in the ED case but then left to fight a second bail battle following a last-minute arrest by the CBI.

Both Mr Singh and Mr Sisodia have slammed the ED, pointing out the agency has been “repeatedly reprimanded by the Supreme Court… that they should not conduct an investigation with malice”.

“Despite this, today the ED reached the residence of Amanatullah Khan early morning to conduct a raid… at a time when his mother-in-law has cancer and has undergone an operation,” Mr Singh thundered, also criticising the agency for acting precipitously in a six-year case.

The charges against Amanatullah Khan date back to 2016, when the CBI filed its case. Mr Singh declared the central agency, after a long investigation, did not arrest the AAP leader. “He did not commit any crime so CBI did not arrest him… but even after that ED does not close its case.”

In April Mr Khan had been granted bail by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court; that was in connection with alleged non-attendance of the ED’s summons in the Waqf Board money laundering case.

“This is the only work left for the ED…” Mr Sisodia declared, repeating what many have claimed – that the ruling BJP uses federal agencies to harass rivals, particularly before an election.

“… to muffle every voice against the BJP and jail the ones who do not break,” Mr Sisodia said, his statement echoed by party colleague and Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, who linked the ED’s action against Mr Khan to an Assembly election due in the city early next year.
