Masakazu Ooi’s Oku-San Manga Set To End in September? All We Know So Far

Popular mangaka Masakazu Ooi announced recently that her manga Oku-san will finally end its run in September after a 15-year-long journey. Although it was announced previously in July, that the manga would conclude in two chapters, this confirmation seems to have solidified it.

Shonengahosha’s magazine Young King Ours GH, where the seinen manga gets published, made the announcement through their official X (formerly Twitter) account last Friday. Although it has been running for 15 years, now that the September 17 release date of the November issue is looming closer, fans seem to be getting emotional.

Ooi’s Oku-san journey started with Shonengahosha’s Monthly Young King magazine back in 2009, and it continued even after the magazine’s name changed to the current Young King Ours GH. The 21st volume of the manga was published by Shonengahosha last year in November.

Based around the life of Kyoko Okita, or Oku-san as she is most popularly called, Ooi’s manga portrays her life as she shifts into the Clover Apartment complex with her husband. It becomes an enjoyable read where one can immerse themselves in their daily lives as well as the lives of the other residents of the apartment complex. Entertaining, comfortable, and easy to read, it is no wonder that the manga has gained such popularity over the years.

Interestingly, Masakzu Ooi and Inumaru also announced recently that another of their highly popular manga will see its conclusion soon. Isekai Affair II: Guided Wives and Clumsy Otherworld Heroes, which is a spin-off of their manga Isekai Affair: 10 Years After Defeating the Demon King, the Hero Cheats on His Wife With a Warrior Woman Who Lost Her Husband, will allegedly be finishing its journey in December with the 9th volume. The authors started publishing both manga on the Sunday Webry website of Shogakukan in November of 2021 and December of 2020, respectively.

It seems like this is a year where many legendary manga are finally bidding farewell to their fans. From My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, to Black Clover, it feels like the end of an era for manga fans. Although the anime adaptations of some of these will keep running for several years, the news has surely made many fans sentimental.

Kamal Haasan lauds Kottukkaali’s team after watching Soori and Anna Ben starrer; Sivakarthikeyan shares veteran actor’s letter

Ahead of the theatrical release of Kottukkaali, Kamal Haasan penned a three-page-long letter after watching the film. He talked about the story and its different aspects that are beautifully written, directed, and executed.

Talking about the film, the Indian 2 actor said, “This is not a review of Kottukkaali. I am sure that good movies like this will come more often in Tamil. Warning to some, People with poor taste cannot blend into the flow of good modern cinema if they don’t improve themselves soon. All they have to do is quench their thirst by standing on the shore without polluting the water.”

Further, Haasan also lauded the Kottukkaali team for pulling off a wonderful rational story in a beautiful cinematic language. He also expressed his gratitude to Sivakarthikeyan. Following this,  Sivakarthikeyan shared the legendary actor’s letters on his social media, along with some pictures. He also thanked him for his kind gesture. Check out the post below!

He wrote, “A moment to cherish for our team #Kottukkaali. Appreciation from the pioneer of Indian cinema, our Ulaganayagan, @ikamalhaasan Sir. This letter is a treasure. Thank you so much Sir. “

Kottukkaali, aka The Adamant Girl, starring Soori and Anna Ben, is all set to hit theaters on August 23, 2024. Recently, the makers unveiled an intense trailer for the movie, which was well-received by the audience and film critics.

Check out the trailer below!

The trailer of Kottukkaali begins with Soori and his two friends being stopped by the cop for riding on a two-wheeler. It is soon revealed that they, along with their family, are traveling to see an exorcist as a spirit possesses his sister.

As the trailer progresses, we get to see Anna Ben sitting in an autorickshaw, lost in thought. Following this, a series of chaotic events unfold as attempts are made to exorcise her, creating a whirlwind of turmoil around them.

It becomes even more interesting when a connection is drawn between Anna Ben’s character and a rooster weighed down by a stone, symbolizing their shared sense of entrapment.

Directed by PS Vinothraj, the upcoming film was earlier selected and screened at the Berlin International Film Festival on February 16, 2024. Moreover, the film is produced by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his own production company.

Central Force Recce At Kolkata Hospital Where Doctor Was Raped, Murdered

Top officers of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards airports and Parliament, reached Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital this morning for a recce. The paramilitary force has been tasked with taking over security arrangements at the state-run hospital after a shocking incident of vandalism in the aftermath of a 31-year-old doctor’s rape and murder that has shaken the nation.

Senior CISF officer K Pratap Singh, who visited the hospital this morning, told the media, “Let us do our job. We have come here for some assignment. Let us finish our work, then senior officers will brief you. I am doing my job mandated by higher authorities.”

The central force’s recce comes after the Supreme Court yesterday questioned the city police’s response when a mob stormed the hospital in the early hours of August 15 and damaged medical equipment and supplies on two floors. The mob violence took place during a ‘reclaim the night’ protest in Kolkata and several other cities to seek justice for the doctor.

“We are unable to comprehend how the State was not prepared to deal with the incident of vandalization of the premises of the hospital,” the Supreme Court said yesterday.

The court noted that a majority of doctors of the hospital have left the campus after the August 15 mob violence. It is necessary to create a safe environment so that doctors can return and treat patients. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta then assured the court that central forces will guard the premises. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for West Bengal government, said he has no objection.

At the hospital, a huge protest is on to demand justice for the victim of the horrifying rape-murder.

Ex Principal’s Day 6 Of Questioning

Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College, reached the CBI’s office in Kolkata this morning for the sixth round of questioning in connection with the investigation into the heinous crime. Mr Ghosh, whose handling of the situation after the doctor’s body was found at a seminar hall on August 9 has come under the scanner, refused to answer questions from the media.

Over the past five days, Sandip Ghosh has been questioned for a total of 64 hours, according to CBI officials.

Separately, the Bengal government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of financial irregularities during Sandip Ghosh’s tenure as principal of the state-run institution.

3 Officers Suspended Over Vandalism

Left red-faced after the top court’s remarks on police response during the mob attack, the Bengal government has now suspended three officers in connection with the incident of vandalism.

The suspended cops include two Assistant Police Commissioners, sources have told news agency PTI. “Three officers have been suspended… Two are Assistant Police Commissioners and one is an inspector,” an official said, adding that further investigation into the matter is underway.
