Parineeti Chopra is ‘proud’ of Sooraj Barjatya and Neena Gupta’s big wins for Uunchai at 70th National Film Awards

The 2022 film Uunchai had its big moment at the 70th National Film Awards announcement as it secured wins in two categories. Sooraj Barjatya won Best Director, while Neena Gupta was named Best Supporting Actress. Parineeti Chopra, who is also a part of the film, recently expressed her pride in her team on receiving the prestigious honor.

Parineeti Chopra took to her Instagram Stories and shared about the achievements of Sooraj Barjatya and Neena Gupta at the 70th National Film Awards. Posting a picture from Uunchai, she wrote, “Proud (smiling face, folded hands emoji).”

Uunchai is an adventure drama film that stars an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Danny Denzongpa, Neena Gupta, Parineeti Chopra, and Sarika.

After the announcement of the 70th National Film Awards, Best Director winner Sooraj Barjatya expressed to PTI, “I’m humbled to be honored amongst the best that the country has seen in cinema during 2022.” He shared about his happiness and sense of gratitude. Barjatya even compared the feeling to truly climbing Mount Everest.

Meanwhile, Neena Gupta told the Hindustan Times that she was surprised after hearing the news and had to ask her manager to check again if it was true. Talking about her journey of hard work, she said, “Mereko aisa lagta hai ki aap kaam kare jao, and kabhi na kabhi phal milta hai, aaj nahi toh kal (I feel that you keep working, and sooner or later you get results, if not today then tomorrow).”

Another film that won big at the National Awards was Brahmāstra: Part One– Shiva. It was awarded in three different categories. It won the Best Film in Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic category. Arijit Singh was named the Best Playback Singer (Male) for Kesariya, while Pritam took Best Music Director (Songs). Karan Johar, Ayan Mukerji, Alia Bhatt, and Pritam had also expressed their excitement.

The winners were announced at a press conference in Delhi on August 16, 2024. All of them will be felicitated by President Droupadi Murmu during a ceremony in October.

Indian-Origin Family, On Way To Daughter’s College, Killed In US Car Crash

Three members of an Indian-origin family were killed in a car crash in US’ Texas, leaving behind their 14-year-old son as the lone survivor.

Arvind Mani, 45, his wife Pradeepa Arvind, 40, and their 17-year-old daughter Andril Arvind, all residents of Leander were killed around 5.45 am on Wednesday near Lampass County, local media reported. 

Their 14-year-old son Adiryan who was not in the vehicle with them became the only surviving member of the family. A GoFundMe page set up to financially aid the grieving boy has raised over $700,000.

“Arvind (45) and Pradeepa (42) were a wonderful couple blessed with two children, Andril (17) and Adiryan (14), reads the GoFundMe page titled “Support for Adiryan Arvind: A Tragic Loss and a Young Life to Rebuild”.

Arvind and his wife were driving their daughter to college in North Texas. the 17-year-old girl has just graduated from high school and was going to attend the University of Dallas where she planned to study computer science.

Authorities said that the crash killed five people in total, including the driver of the car that crashed into the Indian-origin family’s vehicle which then caught on fire.

“No chances of survival”

“There was no chance of survival. It is one of the worst crashes I have seen in 26 years because of the magnitude of the damage and amount of people lost,” police told local media.

Police suspect that the drive of the car that hit the family could have been driving at 160kmph based on a witness who said the the vehicle zoomed past her. 

With the family’s car driving around 112 kmph, the car was “like driving into a concrete wall at 270 kmph,” police said.

“The Rouse High School family is deeply saddened to share the loss of one of our very own Raiders from the Class of 2024, Andril Arvind,” said a letter sent to parents from the school’s principal.
