On Independence Day, RG Kar Medical College’s new principal, Suhrita Pal, stated her lack of information about those behind the hospital vandalism. This followed the resignation of former principal Sandip Ghosh amid controversy. Nurses demanded increased security after the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor led to mob violence at the hospital.

Hoisting the tri-colour at the Polo Grounds here as part of the Independence celebration, the chief minister said, “It is an ambitious plan for transforming India into a developed country by the 100th anniversary of our independence in 2047”

An order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said that Prabhat, a 1992 IPS of Andhra Pradesh cadre, is sent to Jammu and Kashmir with “immediate effect”.
