Sunday evenings in Mumbai have long possessed a comforting, predictable rhythm for paparazzi and fans alike: flocking down to the Jamnabai Narsee School grounds in Juhu to catch B-town’s biggest heartthrobs sweating it out on the turf. But that beloved weekend ritual has officially ground to an abrupt, uneasy halt.
Following the alarming October 18 firing outside the suburban venue involving Tiger Shroff, the All Stars Football Club (ASFC) has indefinitely suspended its popular weekly celebrity football matches.
The cautious call comes straight from club owner Bunty Walia, who called off the scheduled October 25 practice session amidst mounting anxieties surrounding player safety. The harrowing incident, where two unidentified assailants on a motorcycle reportedly fired five to seven rounds at the action star’s vehicle, has deeply shaken the entire squad. With regular lineup members including the likes of Ranbir Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, and Kartik Aaryan, leaving on-ground security to sheer chance was simply out of the question.
According to a report, Walia took decisive action immediately to protect the star-studded lineup: “The October 25 practice match was cancelled by Bunty Walia. He is clear that till a security plan is put in place, he won’t announce the next match. Many actors are part of the ASFC, including Abhishek Bachchan, Kartik Aaryan, and Ranbir Kapoor. Everyone’s safety is top priority.”
Addressing the indefinite hiatus, Walia personally confirmed their vigilant approach going forward: “We are not sure about the next practice session. We’ll need to discuss with the police as to how to go forward. We cannot resume till we put the necessary safety norms in place.”
With the Mumbai Crime Branch actively investigating the disturbing episode, ASFC is fundamentally rethinking its operational playbook. Whispers suggest that future games might ditch the usual open schedules entirely, keeping match dates and grounds strictly confidential to curb chaotic crowds and paparazzi tip-offs. For now, Bollywood’s absolute favourite Sunday pastime stays officially benched until bulletproof safety protocols are firmly established here across Mumbai.
