âœShe Was Our Mamaâ: Macaulay Culkin Annie Murphy and Dan Levy Honour Catherine OâHara at Emmys 2026

Actress Catherine O’Hara was honoured at the 78th Emmy Awards following her death at the age of 71 in January this year. O’Hara was remembered during the ceremony by her on-screen children Macaulay Culkin, Annie Murphy and Dan Levy.
O’Hara and Culkin starred together in the classic Home Alone, while she shared the screen with Murphy and Levy in Schitt’s Creek. Culkin opened the tribute, describing O’Hara as encouraging, warm and funny.
“She wasn’t just a wife and mother to Bo and Matthew and Luke. She was my mom. She was our mama. And by extension, she’s all of our mama. By the way, call your mother tonight. Give it up for moms. But like a good mama, she always showed up when I asked her to. Because that was Catherine. That’s what she did. She showed up. And this is the best that we can do for her tonight.”
Murphy then spoke about the lasting impact O’Hara had on people, sharing several personal encounters following her death.

“After we lost Catherine, I was passed a note on an Air Canada flight that said, ‘She was so special. I hope you’re doing okay.’ On a drive up north, I was hugged by an extremely gruff-looking gas station attendant who was also grieving her loss. While buying wine at the LCBO, I was treated to a very lively Catherine mashup, which was a woman saying, ‘Ew, David, where’s the baby?’ while doing what I can only assume was Catherine’s exquisite hobble from ‘Best in Show.’ These are only a very few of the interactions I’ve been lucky enough to have that remind me how profoundly Catherine has impacted the world.”
Levy shared that the greatest lesson he learnt from O’Hara was to always say yes to everything, both professionally and personally.

“Say yes to her naming that wig. Say yes to giving her space to experiment and create. It will amaze you on a daily basis, and it will change your life. Say yes to her dinner invites and her stories and her wisdom and her generosity. Those are the things you will hold onto the tightest. Always say yes to any opportunity to revel in the presence of greatness.”

Sanjay Dutts Quiet Gesture Towards An Injured Photographer Wins The Internet Over

Sanjay Dutts Quiet Gesture Towards An Injured Photographer Wins The Internet Over

Some gestures don’t need a grand setting to land. Sanjay Dutt proved exactly that during his Ganesh Chaturthi outing this year, and the video of it has been doing the rounds for all the right reasons. The actor had stepped out for darshan at Rahul Kanal’s residence in Mumbai before heading to Antilia for the Ambani family’s celebrations.

Amid the usual chaos of flashbulbs and photographers jostling for a shot, Sanjay noticed something the rest of the frame had missed. One of the photographers present had an injured leg. He didn’t just notice it and move on. Dutt stopped, looked closer, and asked what had happened.

The photographer explained he’d met with a bike accident. That’s when the Munna Bhai star turned practical. “Gaurav se baat kar,” he told him, referring to his manager, Gaurav Dubey. The photographer’s response was honest. “Gaurav phone hi nahi uthata hai.” Not missing a beat, Sanjay assured him he’d handle it personally. “Main karta hoon,” he said.

That was it. No cameras specifically angled for the moment, no big announcement, just an actor pausing his own day to make sure someone on the other side of the lens wasn’t forgotten. The clip made its way online soon after, and predictably, it struck a chord. Fans flooded comments sections praising Sanjay Dutt for the warmth, calling it proof that his reputation for looking out for the people around him isn’t just PR spin.

This isn’t the first time Sanjay’s off-camera kindness has made headlines. A photographer once recalled online how the actor personally offered to cover damages after an accidental scratch to his vanity van, refusing to let the crew make a scene out of it.

Small moment, big impact. That’s usually how these things go.

Soori Receives Rajinikanthâs Praise For Mandaadi: âœHis Words Were A Blessingâ

Soori Receives Rajinikanthâs Praise For Mandaadi: âœHis Words Were A Blessingâ

For Soori, the appreciation surrounding Mandaadi has now acquired a deeply personal dimension. The actor revealed that Rajinikanth watched the film and called him to share his thoughts, a gesture that left him visibly moved.

Taking to X on Monday, Soori shared a picture from his conversation with Rajinikanth and wrote, “Superstar Rajinikanth Sir watched and loved our #Mandaadi. His heartfelt call means the world to me and our entire team.” Describing the interaction as a “priceless moment”, Soori said hearing Rajinikanth’s voice on the other end of the call was something he would cherish. He also referred to the veteran actor’s words of appreciation as “a blessing”.

The gesture comes at an important stage in Soori’s evolution as an actor. Once predominantly recognised for his comic roles and supporting appearances, he made a striking transition into dramatic leading roles with Vetri Maaran’s Viduthalai Part 1. The performance established a different side of the actor and opened the door to a series of protagonist-driven films.

Since then, Soori has continued to embrace demanding characters in films such as Garudan and Maaman. With Mandaadi, he has once again taken on a physically challenging role, this time as the leader of a fishing expedition team caught up in the competitive world of sailing boat racing.

A demanding journey from sea to screen

Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, Mandaadi explores a traditional boat-racing culture along the Tamil Nadu coastline. The director became interested in the sport while searching for a subject connected to the sea that had not been extensively explored on screen. That idea eventually grew into a film that required the cast and crew to spend nearly two months shooting at sea.

The production came with its own share of challenges. A boat carrying equipment reportedly capsized during filming, leading to the loss of equipment and additional delays. The demanding conditions of the shoot have since become an important part of the story surrounding the film, particularly as audiences have responded to its extensive ocean-based action.

The climax, which features a major boat-racing sequence, has emerged as one of the film’s key talking points. Soori’s performance has also added to the appreciation for a project that required him to move well beyond the familiar territory of his earlier career.

Mandaadi features an ensemble cast including Suhas, Mahima Nambiar, Sathyaraj, Mithun Jai Sankar, Ravindra Vijay, Bala Saravanan and Stun Siva. GV Prakash Kumar has composed the music, with SR Kathir handling cinematography and Pradeep E Ragav serving as editor. Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbarayan and Mahesh Mathew have choreographed the action.

The film has also received encouragement from Soori’s peers. Sivakarthikeyan and Vishnu Vishal congratulated the actor after its release, with Sivakarthikeyan highlighting his “hard work, persistence and relentless dedication”.

For Soori, however, Rajinikanth’s call appears to carry a significance of its own. Coming from one of Tamil cinema’s most revered stars, the appreciation is another memorable milestone in an acting journey that has undergone a remarkable transformation.
