Sunny Deolâs Upcoming Period Drama Renamed Batwara 1947

The makers of Sunny Deol’s upcoming period drama have officially announced a change to the title of the film, which was previously known as Lahore 1947. The project will now be titled Batwara 1947. Along with the reveal of the new title, the team has released a striking motion poster that offers the first glimpse into the Partition-era story and confirms the film’s theatrical release date of August 14, 2026.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Aamir Khan Productions posted the title announcement teaser with the caption: “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026.”

The motion poster provides a first look at the film’s intense atmosphere, opening with the line, “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage.” The visuals depict a fiery red slash tearing across the screen, cutting through both text and a map, creating a dramatic representation of the Partition. The sequence also features Sunny Deol’s character running alongside a steam train amidst scenes of chaos, fires, and running crowds. The poster concludes with an image of Sunny Deol standing at the centre, holding a blazing torch, with Preity Zinta and Karan Deol visible behind him with a frightened look.

Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the film marks a reunion between the actor-director duo who have previously delivered hits such as Ghayal, Damini, and Ghatak. The ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare, and Kanikka Kapur.

The music for the film has been composed by A.R. Rahman, while the lyrics have been penned by Javed Akhtar. Scheduled to release a day before Independence Day, Batwara 1947 is expected to bring an intense and emotional portrayal of human stories during one of the most difficult chapters in the country’s history.

Exclusive: Disclosure Day Actor Josh OâConnor Shares His Experience of Working With Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg’s much-awaited film Disclosure Day is all set to release theatrically on June 12. The sci-fi thriller revolves around a massive government conspiracy that begins to unravel when a whistleblower becomes the target of powerful forces determined to keep the truth hidden.
As the stakes rise, the whistleblower races against time to expose what could become the most shocking revelation in human history: the ultimate disclosure of alien existence to the world.

Ahead of its release, actor Josh O’Connor, who stars as the whistleblower, spoke about collaborating with the legendary filmmaker.
He said, “What surprised me the most about Steven Spielberg was how playful he is. He is a technical magician, of course. He knows what it takes to make a beautiful image, where to put the camera, when and how to move it, and which lens to use. You might think he gets results from being a very controlling director who predetermines how everything is going to look or be staged. What you do not realise until you work with him is how spontaneous and loose he is, how he comes to work each day and lets the set inspire a shot, or how he collaborates with actors in this creative, sometimes improvisational way.”

O’Connor concluded, “He is really all about the actors and working with them to bring a story to life.”

Besides Josh O’Connor, Disclosure Day also stars Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, Colman Domingo and Wyatt Russell, among others.
