Nushrratt Bharuccha Issues Clarification After Video Celebrating RCBs Win Sparked Controversy

The joy of seeing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lift the trophy in the IPL 2026 final recently turned into an unexpected social media misunderstanding for Nushrratt Bharuccha. What began as a simple celebration post on her Instagram stories quickly spiralled into intense public debate, forcing her to address the controversy head-on today.

A few days ago, Nushrratt shared a recording of her television screen capturing the winning moments of the IPL 2026 final. While the intent was to share her excitement with fans, the video clip went viral for an entirely different reason. Viewers quickly latched onto a vague, unusual, and sexual noise heard in the background of the recording. This audio sparked heavy speculation and debate among social media users, leading to confusion and baseless accusations.

Taking to her Instagram stories today, Nushrratt finally addressed the situation, expressing her frustration with how quickly the narrative had been twisted. She directly confronted the rumours, writing, “Reposting again, coz I wanna know what’s the big bawaal about my pup making sounds ?”

In her detailed clarification, she highlighted the absurd nature of the claims and revealed that a fraudulent statement had even circulated in her name. “Kuch logon ne hadh hi kar di hai. Ek puppy ke rone ki awaaz se itna bawaal mach gaya hai and someone has issued a fake clarification also on my behalf. So here’s the reality. I was watching the match at my friend’s house and their young puppy was making these crying sounds.”

Nushrratt concluded her statement by urging the public to think twice before engaging in online harassment or jumping to conclusions based on limited context. She reminded her followers that digital spaces should be used responsibly. “People, calm your wild thoughts down! Owning a mobile phone doesn’t empower harassment. Do not misinterpret or follow blindly. Think and act responsibly!”

Peddi premieres grosses $1.5 million overseas driven by strong North America response

Ram Charan’s latest release, Peddi, has made a solid start at the box office in North America. The film premiered in more than 750 locations across the region and grossed over $1.5 million from premiere shows, according to provisional estimates. The opening numbers are significantly higher than those of Ram Charan’s previous release, Game Changer, which arrived during the lucrative Sankranthi season.

The strong overseas start has raised expectations for the film’s theatrical run. Peddi is estimated to require around $5 million to $6 million in North America to reach its break-even target. Industry observers believe the impressive premiere figures have given the film a strong foundation heading into the opening weekend. While Hombale Films’ distribution arm is handling the film’s overseas release in several territories, Prathyangira Cinemas is managing distribution in North America and select international markets.

Domestic premieres witness massive turnout

The sports-based rural action drama also witnessed massive attendance across the Telugu states during its premiere shows on Wednesday night. Fans thronged theatres despite ticket prices touching ₹600 in many locations. Several film personalities attended special screenings in Hyderabad, including filmmakers SS Rajamouli and Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Ram Charan’s wife, Upasana Konidela, celebrated the film’s release enthusiastically and was seen throwing confetti at a packed single-screen theatre. Actress Janhvi Kapoor, meanwhile, visited the Tirumala Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh and offered prayers for the film’s success.

Humongous Day 1 on the cards

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi also features an ensemble cast in key supporting roles. Backed by a large-scale production and an extensive promotional campaign, the film generated significant buzz ahead of its release. Trade circles are now closely watching its Day 1 worldwide performance. Given the exceptional response to the premieres and strong advance bookings, expectations are high that the film’s Day 1 worldwide gross could cross the ₹100 crore mark.

Editors Take: The Quiet Power of Nutan

On Nutan’s 90th birth anniversary, Filmfare’s Editor-in-Chief Jitesh Pillaai reflects on the enduring legacy of an actress whose grace, emotional depth and understated brilliance continue to inspire generations of cinema lovers.

In his words:

nutan

When content was king. When heroes were promoted on film banners and posters. When their work spoke. They didn’t need marketing catalysts, social media or a digital push. Talent was the calling card.

Forget what the records say; I think this was Gulzar Saab’s first Hindi-released song. And what a beautiful Dada Burman composition it was. Who else but the magnificent Lata Mangeshkar to give her vocal prowess to this song?

And then there was she. After baby Mohnish had come into the world. The simple yet stunning Nutanji. She could embody the hopes of a million women. She could show you suffering without that air of tragedy, fix you with a piercing stare, and then gather you together and heal all your broken pieces.

That was Nutan. Never before, never after. If she had layers, they were for the screen. Every nuance was understated. Every word was laced with subtext. And yet be it Bandini (1963) or Sujata (1959), her pain made you ache.

She ruled the marquee for years, and yet there was such a simple, unaffected quality to her. None of that diva-dom. She acted because she cared. In her own way, she espoused the cause of feminism and empowered women much before all these fashionable hashtags were thrown in our face.

Nutan was the calm after the storm. The Florence Nightingale on screen. When you were bruised, she healed you. And made sure you went home thinking about how right or wrong your choices were. Her acting made you think and feel. How many actors can stake claim to that?
