In a big development in the investigation into last year’s attack on the High Commission of India in London and the protests that followed, a key accused has been arrested by the National Investigation Agency. 

Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow in the United Kingdom, has been arrested for unlawful activities during the March 22, 2023, protests.

The anti-terror agency said the attacks on the high commission were found to be in retaliation to the action taken by the Punjab Police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18 that year. 

“NIA investigations in the case so far have revealed that the incidents in London on 19th March and 22nd March last year were parts of a larger conspiracy to unleash vicious attacks on the Indian missions and its officials,” a statement from the NIA said. 
 

The Supreme Court will give its verdict tomorrow on petitions seeking 100 per cent verification of VVPATs with votes punched into electronic voting machines (EVMs).

The verdict will come on a day when voting on 88 seats in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections will be held.

A Bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta will give the verdict around 10.30 am.

The petitioners include the non-profit Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) and others.

India gears up for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections with 1,206 candidates vying for victory across 13 states. Kerala will witness voting on all 20 seats, while Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir will also see polling. After this phase, elections will conclude in Kerala, Rajasthan, and Tripura.
