Exclusive: Bryan Cranston Talks About Reuniting With Julia Louis-Dreyfus in The Sheep Detectives

Bryan Cranston lends his voice to the film The Sheep Detectives, playing Sebastian, a black Icelandic leader sheep. A world-weary cynic, Sebastian joined the flock later in life and has never truly felt like he belongs. It is only when his haunting past comes to light that we understand why he struggles to trust anyone other than George, the shepherd who is mysteriously found dead.
To shape Sebastian, Bryan Cranston drew not only from his voice, “gravelly, like I’ve had a sore throat forever”, he jokes, but also from his own experiences feeling like an outsider.
“Sebastian’s perspective is essential to good storytelling. You need contrasting viewpoints, something for the character to push against. Otherwise, it’s boring,” Cranston says.

Paired with Lily (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Sebastian forms the emotional backbone of the film, grounding its whimsical mystery in something deeper. His scenes with Lily sometimes feel like romantic comedy, while others feel like heartbreaking romantic drama.
“Julia and I go way back—to Seinfeld, when our characters dated. When you know her voice and the vulnerability she brings, you can feel that rhythm between the characters. It becomes not just Lily and Sebastian, but something more, a relationship that gives the story real heart,” adds Cranston.
The Sheep Detectives Plot
The film is based on the 2005 novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann. It revolves around George, a shepherd who dies under suspicious circumstances. Following his death, his flock decides to take matters into their own hands and resolve the mystery.
Filmfare’s Review of The Sheep Detectives

Filmfare’s reviewer rated the film four out of five stars and wrote, “In the end, what lingers is not the novelty of sheep solving a murder but the film’s quiet insistence that stories, no matter how imperfectly understood, are how we make sense of loss. And in that regard, this woolly whodunnit proves far more profound than it has any right to be.”
The Sheep Detectives releases in cinemas today, May 8, in India.

Sangeeth Prathap Mamitha Baiju Team Up For Dinoy Pauloseâs Directorial Debut

The Malayalam industry’s newest fan-favourite duo is officially back in action. Actors Sangeeth Prathap and Mamitha Baiju have teamed up for a new film directed by debutant filmmaker Dinoy Paulose. The untitled project was formally launched in Kochi on Thursday in the presence of the cast and crew.

A Fresh Pairing After Premalu

The film is being produced by Ashiq Usman under his banner, with filmmaker Arun D Jose attached as co-producer. The announcement has already generated strong curiosity among Malayalam cinema fans, largely because it reunites two of the breakout performers associated with the blockbuster success of Premalu.

Dinoy Paulose is no stranger to Malayalam audiences. Though this marks his first outing as director, he has steadily built a reputation as a writer and performer with a flair for rooted humour and emotional storytelling. He previously co-wrote the hugely popular Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, a coming-of-age drama that emerged as one of the defining Malayalam hits of its time. Dinoy also appeared in a supporting role in the film, before going on to script and headline projects such as Pathrosinte Padappukal and Visudha Mejo.

The technical crew for the new film includes cinematographer Akhil George, editor Chaman Chakko, and art director Nimesh M Thanoor. While the makers are yet to reveal plot details, industry chatter suggests the film will lean into the youthful, relationship-driven storytelling style that has resonated strongly with Malayalam audiences in recent years.

Busy Line-Up For Both Actors

For Sangeeth Prathap, the film continues a career upswing that accelerated after Premalu became a cultural phenomenon among younger viewers. The actor was most recently seen in Baby Girl and is now preparing for Medical Miracle, which marks his first project as a lead actor. Known for his effortless comic timing and understated screen presence, Sangeeth has quickly become one of the more exciting young performers in Malayalam cinema.

Mamitha Baiju, meanwhile, is balancing a packed slate across Malayalam and Tamil industries. After the immense popularity of Premalu, she has emerged as one of the most sought-after young actors in South Indian cinema. She recently wrapped shooting for Bethlehem Kudumba Unit alongside Nivin Pauly. The project reunites her with Premalu director Girish AD and the team at Bhavana Studios.

The actor also has an impressive Tamil line-up ahead. She is part of Jana Nayagan, widely expected to be actor-politician Vijay’s final film appearance before fully transitioning into politics. Mamitha is also attached to Vishwanath & Sons starring Suriya, and Irandu Vaanam featuring Vishnu Vishal.

With a promising debut director, a successful young cast, and a strong production backing, the untitled film is already shaping up to be one of the more closely watched Malayalam projects currently in development.
