Project Hail Marys Directors React to The India Release Delay Due to Dhurandhar
Ryan Gosling’s latest film, Project Hail Mary, is collecting good numbers at the box office in the USA, but the film’s release has been pushed in India due to Dhurandhar. In a recent interview, directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were asked about the delayed release of their film, and they had a heartfelt response to the same.
When pointed out that earlier, Indian films used to move their release dates for a big Hollywood studio film, but how the situation has changed, Phil Lord said with a laugh, “How dare you have your own successful film industry?”
He continued, “I don’t need to tell you that often, when you look at the top 10 films in the United States, there would be a Bollywood film. Those movies play in American theatres. Most Americans go ‘what’s that’, but there is a big audience for it.”
Miller added, “And it’s growing every year. Indian films in America have begun to gain broad cultural relevance, starting with RRR. That really spread out beyond just those seeking it out.” Meanwhile, as per global reports, the Ryan Gosling-led sci-fi epic debuted to a stellar US$140.9 million at the box office, marking the biggest debut of 2026.
Directed by acclaimed filmmakers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and based on Andy Weir’s bestselling novel, Project Hail Mary has also emerged as one of the strongest openings for an original, non-franchise film in recent years.
Project Hail Mary will release in Indian cinemas on March 26, 2026, in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
Talking of Dhurandhar, the Aditya Dhar directorial is on a record-breaking spree, showing no signs of slowing down. As of its fourth day in theatres, it has officially crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in worldwide gross collections, and it is now inching closer to the massive Rs 700 crore milestone globally. It stars Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi and Danish Pandor, among others.
