The makers of Pallichattambi have unveiled the film’s teaser, offering audiences their first glimpse into the raw, immersive world led by Tovino Thomas. The teaser release comes alongside a minor yet significant update: the film’s theatrical release has been pushed by a day and will now arrive in cinemas on April 10 instead of April 9.
The shift in date is a practical one, as the earlier release coincided with the Kerala Assembly elections voting day. By moving the release, the makers ensure better accessibility for audiences while avoiding a clash with a major civic event.
The teaser itself sets the tone for a grounded, earthy period drama. Opening with sweeping visuals of Kerala’s misty high ranges, it quickly moves into a harsher terrain of survival, struggle and power dynamics. Tovino appears in a rugged avatar, embodying a man shaped by land, labour and conflict. There is a simmering tension throughout the teaser, hinting at themes of displacement, identity and resilience.

Dijo Jose Antony explores history through human struggle
Directed by Dijo Jose Antony, Pallichattambi is set in the late 1950s and delves into the lives of migrant farming communities who settled in Kerala’s high ranges during that period. The narrative appears rooted in realism, focusing on the socio-political and emotional upheavals faced by these communities.
Kayadu Lohar plays the female lead, while the supporting cast brings together a strong ensemble including Vijayaraghavan, Johny Antony, Sudheer Karamana, TG Ravi, Sreejith Ravi, Vinod Kedamangalam and Prashanth Alexander.
The screenplay is penned by S Suresh Babu, known for his work in films such as Dada Sahib, Shikkar and Oruthee. His involvement suggests a narrative that balances commercial storytelling with layered character arcs.
On the technical front, the teaser highlights the film’s strong visual identity. Cinematographer Tijo Tomy captures the rugged beauty of the terrain with an almost tactile quality, while editor Sreejith Sarang ensures a sharp, evocative rhythm. The background score by Jakes Bejoy adds to the tension, blending folk undertones with a modern cinematic edge.
Produced by Noufal, Brijeesh and the CCC Brothers under the banners of World Wide Films and C Cube Bros, the film appears mounted on a scale that complements its ambitious subject.
A promising addition to Tovino’s evolving filmography
With Pallichattambi, Tovino Thomas seems to be stepping into another physically and emotionally demanding role. The teaser positions him not just as a protagonist, but as a man caught in the crosscurrents of history and survival.
The film’s backdrop of migrant farmers in Kerala’s high ranges is relatively unexplored in mainstream Malayalam cinema, making this project particularly intriguing. If the teaser is anything to go by, Pallichattambi could blend personal drama with a larger socio-historical canvas, something that Malayalam cinema has excelled at in recent years.
With its revised release date now set and the teaser generating early buzz, Pallichattambi is shaping up to be one of the more compelling period dramas to watch out for this summer.
