A recent controversy involving comments about legendary actor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran appears to be settling down after veteran Telugu actor Rajendra Prasad issued a public apology. Actor Vishal has now responded with a video message thanking him for addressing the issue and acknowledging the sentiments of fans and members of the Tamil film fraternity.

The controversy erupted after Rajendra Prasad made remarks about MGR while praising the acting prowess of legendary Telugu star Kantha Rao during the Kalaprapurna Kanta Rao National Award–2025 ceremony held in Hyderabad. According to reports, the veteran actor suggested that MGR was intimidated by Kantha Rao’s performances and claimed that the actor-politician “used to wet his pants watching Kanta Rao’s acting.”

The statement quickly sparked criticism from several members of the Tamil film industry. Among those who reacted were Vishal and Nassar, both associated with the Nadigar Sangam, who urged Rajendra Prasad to apologise for the remark.

Rajendra Prasad issues a public apology

Responding to the backlash, Rajendra Prasad shared a video message on Friday in which he clarified that his words were not intended to disrespect the late icon.

“When I was casually speaking on stage, I misspoke about Tamil cinema’s legendary actor, MGR sir. I’m unsure who did it, but it has blown out of proportion. Why would I disrespect MGR sir? When I was studying in the film institute, MGR sir was the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He had even visited our institute to see how we learned acting. I am nobody to disrespect him,” he said in the video.

The actor also assured viewers that he would be more mindful about his words in the future and expressed regret over the controversy that followed his statement.

MGR remains one of the most revered figures in Tamil cinema and politics. Known for his iconic screen presence and immense popularity among audiences, he went on to become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and led the state from 1977 until his passing in 1987. His legacy continues to hold immense emotional value for fans and the Tamil film industry.

Vishal responds with appreciation

Following the apology, Vishal released a video acknowledging Rajendra Prasad’s clarification and thanking him for addressing the issue.

Thanking him, Vishal said, “On behalf of Nadigar Sangam and MGR fans across the world, we thank you for your words. We were hurt by your words and requested to tender an apology. You are a talented veteran, but to err is human. You realised it, understood our sentiments and gave an apology. It is very nice and sweet of you. Even if someone speaks ill of you tomorrow, we would all support you.”

Vishal’s response signals that the issue has now been resolved amicably, with the Tamil film fraternity accepting the veteran actor’s apology. The exchange also highlights the deep reverence the industry continues to hold for MGR, whose contributions to cinema and public life remain a defining chapter in Tamil cultural history.

With the clarification now issued and acknowledged, the controversy appears to have come to a close, with both sides emphasising mutual respect and understanding.

The trailer for Muthu Engira Kaattaan has been unveiled by JioHotstar, offering a glimpse into a curious and darkly comic mystery headlined by Vijay Sethupathi. The upcoming Tamil series is scheduled to premiere on March 27.

At first glance, the show appears to blend crime, satire, and small-town eccentricity. Just when things seem painfully uneventful, the calm is shattered by the discovery of a severed human head found deep in the wilderness.

The bizarre discovery sets off an investigation that becomes stranger by the minute. Instead of leading to a straightforward crime story, the case gradually reveals fragments of a mysterious man’s life. As the officers dig deeper, the clues suggest that the victim had lived many different lives.

A mystery that unfolds piece by piece

The trailer hints that the series will revolve around piecing together the identity and story of the man behind the severed head. Each new revelation paints a different picture of who he might have been.

At one point, the man is linked to a smuggling network. At another, he appears to have been part of a travelling dance troupe. Yet another clue suggests that he worked as a watch mechanic. These conflicting details suggest a layered narrative where the investigation gradually uncovers the many identities of the same person.

The storytelling appears to lean into absurdity and intrigue, a tone that has often defined the work of M Manikandan. Known for crafting unconventional stories rooted in everyday lives, the filmmaker reunites with Vijay Sethupathi for the series after their earlier collaborations Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi.

While Manikandan serves as the creator of the show, B Ajithkumar has directed the series and is also credited as its editor.

A familiar creative team and an eclectic cast

Behind the camera, the series brings together an experienced technical crew. Madhu Neelakandan handles the cinematography, while the production design is shaped by art directors Jacki and Sabu Mohan.

The show also features a diverse ensemble cast alongside Vijay Sethupathi. The lineup includes Milind Soman, Sudev Nair, Vadivel Murugan, Risha Jacobs, VJ Paaru, Kalaivani Bhaskar, and Muthukumar.

Adding another interesting dimension to the project, Vijay Sethupathi is also backing the series as a producer under his own banner. The actor has increasingly expanded his footprint as a producer in recent years, supporting projects that explore unconventional storytelling.

With its unusual premise, quirky characters, and layered mystery, Muthu Engira Kaattaan seems poised to deliver something different from the typical crime thriller. The trailer suggests a narrative that is as interested in exploring the strange journey of a man’s life as it is in solving the puzzle of his death.

Whether it unfolds as a dark comedy, a character study, or an offbeat whodunit, the series promises a distinctive viewing experience when it begins streaming later this month.
