Supriya Pathak Supports Deepika Padukoneâs 8-Hour Shift Demand

Veteran actress Supriya Pathak has come out in support of her former co-star Deepika Padukone regarding the ongoing debate over working hours in the film industry. Joining the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ananya Panday, she shared her perspective on why the demand for an eight-hour shift is a necessary step for actors.

In a recent conversation with Bollywood Bubble, Supriya Pathak explained that acting requires significant mental and physical preparation, which is often compromised by gruelling schedules. She mentioned that for an actor to perform effectively, they need adequate time to focus on their craft.

She said, “Acting is such a craft that if I don’t work on myself, what story will I present to the audience? As an actor, I am the one facing the audience. And when you face an audience, you need to be prepared. If you don’t give me the time to prepare myself, how will I face them? So I think it’s very important that actors, whether male or female, are given the time to prepare.”

Beyond the professional requirements of the job, Supriya highlighted the unique challenges women face while balancing their careers and personal lives. Referencing how women often manage multiple thoughts and responsibilities simultaneously, she explained, “I feel our brains are thinking about twenty things at the same time, while a man’s brain often focuses on one thing. Their challenges are different, ours are different, which is why we need balance.”

She expressed strong belief in the inherent strength of women, adding, “I believe women are empowered within themselves. Sometimes we just don’t ignite that power. But if we get even a small spark, we can become a very powerful firecracker.”

The conversation also turned toward the long-standing issue of pay disparity in Bollywood. While Supriya admitted she does not track the specific earnings of others, she acknowledged that unequal pay is a global concern not limited to the entertainment sector.

She said, “I don’t know much about what others are paid. But I do believe this is not just a problem in our industry. It’s a global issue. Even today, many women are fighting against it.” She further explained that achieving balance will take time, saying, “Pay disparity is part of the larger conversation around women’s empowerment. Across the world, in almost every profession, even if a woman is equally capable, or sometimes better, she can still face unequal pay simply because she is a woman. That struggle is still ongoing, and achieving true equality will take time.”

The discussion follows Deepika Padukone’s recent decision to prioritize shorter shifts after the birth of her daughter, Dua, in 2024. This change in priorities reportedly led to her exiting major projects like Kalki 2898 AD and Spirit, though she remains attached to upcoming films such as Shah Rukh Khan’s King and Atlee’s next sci-fi project.

Filmfare Exclusive: Hansal Mehtas Next to Star Vishal Jethwa

Our sources have confirmed that National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta is set to collaborate with Vishal Jethwa for his next film, bringing together a director known for layered storytelling and a young performer celebrated for his intense screen presence.

Mehta has long been regarded as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Hindi cinema. Over the years, he has built a reputation for crafting stories rooted in realism with critically acclaimed projects such as Shahid, Aligarh and the widely celebrated web series Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story. His film Shahid, starring Rajkummar Rao, won the National Film Award for Best Direction and cemented Mehta’s reputation as a filmmaker committed to telling stories that matter.

Jethwa, meanwhile, has emerged as one of the most promising actors of his generation. He first gained widespread attention for his chilling performance as the antagonist in Mardaani 2, where he starred opposite Rani Mukerji. The actor continued to impress critics and audiences with his nuanced performances in projects like Tiger 3 and the acclaimed drama Homebound, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and received international praise.

The upcoming collaboration between Mehta and Jethwa is already generating interest within the industry, largely because both are known for their stellar talent. While Mehta’s cinema often explores themes of identity, morality, and social justice, Jethwa has demonstrated a rare ability to disappear into morally complex roles.

If Mehta’s track record with actors is any indication, having previously delivered career-defining roles for performers like Rajkummar Rao, this collaboration with Jethwa could well mark another powerful chapter in both their journeys. We are super stoked to get an official confirmation soon, what about you? Keep watching this space for more on Bollywood.
