âœI Understand The Trauma of Kashmirâ – Sidhant Gupta

For actor Sidhant Gupta, Mumbai may be where he works, but his roots remain firmly in Jammu. Raised in a city that sits at the very heart of India’s most storied and complex region, Sidhant carries his roots not as nostalgia, but as an active creative inheritance, one where Jammu’s proximity to Kashmir has quietly but powerfully informed the characters he has been drawn to.

sidhant guptaHe says, “It’s fascinating how two of my most prominent roles hailed from not too far from Jammu. To think of it, must have helped in being casted. My breakthrough role of Jay Khanna in Jubilee was from Karachi, which was a part of India then. And the recent role of the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, was born in Kashmir. We’re obviously one state.”

But for the actor, the connection goes far deeper than geography or casting coincidences. Growing up, visits to Kashmir left an indelible mark on him, ones that later translated into a more serious, studied engagement with the region’s layered and painful history when he took on the role of Nehru.

He continues, “How I have cherished my visits to Kashmir growing up! But beyond that, I got to study and understand the trauma of Kashmir. I wonder if fiction will ever match up to the reality that people of Kashmir have lived.”

He admits there are times when he feels an instant connection to the land where he hails from. Sidhant explains, “Every time my performance is appreciated, I see smiling faces from back home, flashing in my head.”

Sidhant was most recently seen in Nikkhil Advani’s Freedom at Midnight Season 2, where he essayed the role of Jawaharlal Nehru.

Janhvi Kapoor Says It Hurts to See Arjun Kapoor Face Bullying and Harassment Online

Janhvi Kapoor recently spoke about how she deals with social media culture and the trolling that often comes her way. The actress shared that over time she has learned not to give too much importance to online opinions, even though negativity on the internet can sometimes be overwhelming. She also addressed the kind of online harassment her half brother Arjun Kapoor faces.

Janhvi Arjun

Reflecting on how social media works today, Janhvi explained in an interview with Grazia, “From what I understand about social media culture, is that everyone wants prominence, views and virality, so if they are making content about you, you’re just a scapegoat, they’re just using your name for clickbait, rage bait and whatever else it is to further their engagement. That’s the only purpose you serve, and once you look at it from that lens, you understand that what they’re saying about you has nothing to do with you. Then you start taking that less to your heart.”

While she has managed to emotionally distance herself from online chatter, Janhvi admitted it still hurts to see the kind of trolling directed at Arjun Kapoor. Speaking about it, she said, “Everyone’s doing what they have to, sab ghar chalane ki koshish kar rahe hai (they are trying to make ends meet). You need to be transactional – nothing is that deep. It’s stupid to occupy your brain for more than five minutes with this. Of course, it hurts to feel misunderstood, or when it turns into bullying and harassment, the way I’ve seen happen with my brother sometimes, and there’s no excuse for that kind of behaviour. Negativity fuels negativity, and you just have to remove yourself from it.”

On the work front, Janhvi was last seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. She will next be seen in the Telugu film Peddi opposite Ram Charan. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under Vriddhi Cinemas, the film also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma and Boman Irani, and is set to release in theatres on April 30.
