Veteran actor Prakash Raj has opened up about his role in the highly anticipated mythological action-adventure Varanasi, helmed by ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli. At a recent event, the seasoned performer shared a glimpse of his character in the Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas-starrer.
Prakash Raj plays Shiv Bhakt
Speaking about the film and his character, Prakash Raj confirmed that he is portraying a Maha Shiv Bhakt, a devout follower of Lord Shiva, in the ambitious project. Though details about his character design and arc are being kept under wraps, his involvement has added another layer of buzz to the action-adventure. Reports suggest that his role will be pivotal during key moments in the story, especially in the spiritually rich segments of the narrative.
Prakash Raj’s casting also marks a notable reunion with Rajamouli after many years. Their last collaboration was Vikramarkudu, which further fuels expectations of a powerful screen presence. There are also reports that he may essay Mahesh Babu’s father in the film. With its global release date locked for April 7, 2027, Varanasi continues to generate excitement as details about its ensemble cast and mythic universe gradually emerge.
Prakash Raj signs another film
Apart from Varanasi, Prakash Raj has reportedly signed another Tamil film, Saraswathi. The project marks the directorial debut of actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. In the breezy entertainer, Prakash Raj plays a lawyer named Ramanujam.
Responding to the announcement, Varalaxmi expressed her appreciation for Prakash Raj’s contribution to her first directorial venture. The film also features Priyamani, Radhika Sarathkumar and Naveen Chandra. The shooting was completed in December last year, with the team wrapping up after an eventful schedule.
