Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King is already being counted among the most awaited releases of 2026. Fans are excited to see him return to the big screen in full form once again. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film also stars Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma in pivotal roles. Slated for a December 2026 release, the film is generating strong buzz even before promotions begin.

In a recent chat with Variety India, Siddharth Anand opened up about the expectations surrounding the film, especially after the massive success of Pathaan in 2023. Having delivered blockbusters like War, Fighter and Pathaan, the director is no stranger to box office pressure. When asked whether there is pressure to achieve certain numbers with King, he shared, “I wouldn’t say there’s pressure, but I would say there are expectations. And that comes when you work with a megastar like SRK. So, I’m aware of those expectations. But if I start pandering to them, then it’s a mistake; I’ll go wrong in my filmmaking. Because if there were a formula for catering, then everyone would be making blockbusters.”

He further explained that Pathaan wasn’t made with the sole intention of chasing box office figures. According to Anand, once a filmmaker starts following a so-called success formula, it leads to second guessing audience tastes instead of trusting the story. He emphasized that the team is approaching King with the mindset of proving themselves once again. “We need to pass the test again with the audience. We are working with that intention. We are aware of expectations, but we don’t succumb to the pressure.”
Recently, Shah Rukh Khan unveiled a powerful announcement video to confirm the film’s release date. Sharing the clip, he wrote, “#KING is Ready to ROAR on 24.12.2026 in Cinemas.”
With the countdown officially begun, fans are eagerly waiting to see SRK cast his spell yet again.
