Ektaa Kapoorâs Naagin may slither into cinema after TV success

Ektaa Kapoor’s cult television franchise Naagin could soon be making the leap from the small screen to movie theatres. Following the strong run of Naagin 7, reports suggest that the producer is exploring the possibility of expanding the supernatural universe into feature films.

According to an independent industry source, Balaji Telefilms is currently in conversation to potentially take the Naagin brand beyond television. Given the franchise’s enduring popularity and its larger-than-life mythology, the makers are said to be considering a cinematic adaptation that would reimagine the shapeshifting serpent saga for the big screen. While discussions are still at an early stage, the intent is to scale up the visual spectacle and storytelling for a theatrical audience.

Naagin has been one of Indian television’s most successful supernatural shows, consistently drawing high viewership since its debut. The series returned with its seventh season in 2025, featuring Priyanka Chahar Choudhary as the iconic ichchhadhari naagin. With seven seasons already under its belt, the franchise has built a loyal fan base that extends far beyond television.

An insider shared that although the idea is still being developed, the team’s experience in successfully delivering multiple seasons makes a big-screen transition a realistic next step. The aim, reportedly, is to retain the emotional core and mythology of Naagin while giving it a fresh, cinematic treatment.

Adding to the buzz around serpent-based stories, Shraddha Kapoor is set to headline Nagin: An Epic Tale of Love and Sacrifice, a separate film project that has been in development for some time. As per reports, the film is expected to go on floors in April 2026. A source revealed that with Shraddha locked in, the rest of the cast has also fallen into place, allowing the project to finally move forward.

Producer Nikhil Dwivedi earlier confirmed that Shraddha was enthusiastic about playing a shapeshifting snake and was the first actor to come on board the film.

While there is no official announcement yet regarding Naagin’s theatrical outing, the growing chatter signals that Ektaa Kapoor may soon be ready to bring her iconic TV creation to cinemas, giving fans a whole new way to experience the fantasy world they love.
