The campaigning for local body elections in Maharashtra’s metropolitan cities has ended. Voting will be held tomorrow, on January 15, in 29 municipal corporations in the state.

Stray dogs were allegedly culled using lethal injections in Telangana’s Kamareddy and Hanamkonda districts, with elected representatives reportedly fulfilling election promises. Police have registered cases against several sarpanches and others involved. Carcasses were exhumed for post-mortem examinations, and viscera samples sent for analysis. The Supreme Court also expressed concern over stray animal management.

Tamil Nadu’s commitment to girls’ education was highlighted by DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, who contrasted the state’s progressive approach with perceived limitations in northern regions. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin distributed laptops to 900 students, emphasizing education over social media and reiterating the government’s dedication to empowering women through learning and career opportunities.
