After unseasonal rain devastated crops across Madhya Pradesh, farmers have now been hit by a second shock – a controversial electricity department order restricting power supply to just 10 hours a day.

In one of the biggest crackdowns on the illegal trade of banned pharmaceutical substances in recent years, Ghaziabad Police and the crime branch seized over 15.7 lakh vials of prohibited cough syrup.

A farmer from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district in Maharashtra on Wednesday claimed to have received only Rs 6 as compensation from the government for the crop losses he suffered as a result of heavy rains and subsequent flooding.
