The Allahabad high court has ruled that ‘Kanyadaan’ is not required for the solemnisation of a marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act. Only ‘saptapadi’ (the Sanskrit for’saat phere’) is an essential rite of such a marriage, observed the Lucknow High Court bench while hearing a revision appeal filed by Ashutosh Yadav.

The ongoing elections in Uttarakhand have led to a surge in demand for buses and cabs during the peak wedding season, causing challenges for families in booking vehicles for baraats. State authorities have diverted over 12,000 vehicles for election duty, affecting wedding preparations and creating logistical dilemmas.
