According to the latest trade reports, Kantara Chapter 1, a prequel rooted in Karnataka’s Bhoota Kola folklore, has registered around Rs 308 crore for collections at the global box office in just four days since its October 2 release. At the India box office, it registered an estimated Rs 223 crore (net) while gross was around Rs 267.5 crore. The film has been very well received overseas too, amassing $4.83 million (nearly Rs 40 crore). Over 5.78 million tickets were sold on the ticketing portal BookMyShow, bolstered by celebrity endorsements praising the film for its cultural depth and powerful performances.

Kantara Chapter 1 in Hindi

Kantara Chapter 1 managed to put up a good show in the first four days of its release at the Hindi box office. After posting an impressive Rs 17.50 crore on the first day (Thursday), Kantara Chapter 1 subsequently registered Rs 11 crore on day 2, Rs 19 crore on day 3 and Rs 21 crore on day 4 (Sunday). The total four days collections of the film are at an estimated Rs 68.50 crore (net). Festive season and weekend contributed to the film’s openings, apart from excellent reviews, social media opinions and positive word of mouth. But the litmus test for the film is to put up a healthy show on its first Monday. If Kantara Chapter 1 can hold its ground during the start of week, it can continue its magnificent box office run.
