A civic volunteer allegedly assaulted a truck driver along the National Highway 19 in West Bengal, only to be beaten up with slippers in full public view.

Forty girls aged between nine and 14 years were found confined inside a toilet of an unregistered madrassa here during an inspection, officials said on Thursday.
