Shah Rukh Khan, affectionately known as the King of Bollywood, has now included one of Indian cinema’s most prestigious accolades among his many achievements at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, as President Droupadi Murmu presented him with the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan. This win held particular significance for SRK. Despite his dominance at the box office and his status as one of India’s most admired actors for over three decades, he had not previously been honoured with a National Award.

With his charisma, Shah Rukh Khan, dressed in a smart black Bandhgala, walked onto the stage to accept the National Award. For many years, both fans and critics had wondered about the reason behind him not receiving a National Award. Considering his contributions, he had, after all, given some of the most successful and unforgettable performances in Indian cinema.

The recognition for Jawan, which emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 2023, has finally filled that void for the superstar. The 71st National Film Awards proved to be a memorable occasion for several reasons. Rani Mukerji also received her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful performance in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. This win came nearly three decades after debut in the industry, hence marking a deeply personal achievement. Also, Shah Rukh was not the only recipient on the winners’ stage, as he shared the Best Actor award with Vikrant Massey, who was recognized for his performance in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail.

The awards ceremony, organized by the National Film Development Corporation of India, was a grand affair. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had revealed the winners on August 1, 2025, after an evaluation of many submissions. This year, there were 332 submissions in the feature film category, 115 in non-feature films, 27 books, and 16 critics’ entries.

Although the theatrical run of Mirai is coming to an end, the action adventure continues to receive love and appreciation. While several personalities from Tollywood have endorsed the film via social media posts, on Tuesday, it was Allu Arjun’s turn. The icon star is always in the forefront when it comes to appreciating films. After the actor recently heaped praises on small film Little Hearts, he has lauded Mirai.

The actor praised the film for its technical brilliance, and commended all the technicians. He made a special mention about the teams that were behind CG, VFX Art, Mixing, and of course the pulsating music. Adding that he had great respect for director Karthik Ghattamaneni’s commendable work and his cinematic vision, Allu Arjun described him as a ‘new-age commercial director.’ The Mirai team is elated with the post as the words of praise have come from one of the best actors in the industry. Released on September 12, Mirai opened to a glowing response! In the first week, the film had collected Rs 65.1 crore, with lion’s share coming from the Telugu version. Surprisingly, Mirai did not perform as expected in Malayalam, Tamil, Karnataka and Hindi. The total collections of Mirai at the Indian box office amounted to Rs 80.75 crore. In overseas, the film has collected more than $2 million dollars. Mirai catapulted Teja Sajja into an elite league, he became only third Telugu actor after Jr NTR and Prabhas to have two films to cross the milestone in the US.
