Pawan Kalyan’s upcoming film They Call Him OG is going from strength to strength! While the pre-release buzz of the action entertainer is all-time in the Telugu speaking states, in the US too, there’s unprecedented buzz. While the film is slated for release on September 25, in the US OG will have its premieres on September 24.

OG became the first ever Telugu film to have crossed $2 million pre-sales in North America

Pawan’s OG scripts history

Three days before its theatrical debut, OG is rewriting the North American box office story. The Pawan Kalyan-starrer became the first ever Telugu film to have crossed $2 million pre-sales in North America without a trailer release — an indication of Pawan’s superstardom. While fans of the actor aren’t surprised with the new record, it indeed surprised trade analysts. “The film’s trailer is yet to be out and we have only three days for release, and look at the craze, it’s magnificent,” said a US exhibitor. Pawan Kalyan, known for his swashbuckling roles, is a huge box office draw. The fact that he also became the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh only added to the exciting buzz. While Pawan’s earlier films too had craze but the buzz shrouding OG is the best.

While OG is slated for release on September 25, in the US OG will have its premieres on September 24.

OG to open to record numbers

“We are expecting OG to open to record numbers, not only in the Telugu speaking states, but also in the US” said producer DVV Danayya. “Considering the craze, we are releasing the film in a record number of theatres. OG’s storyline, Pawan garu’s gangster role and stylized action sequences have fans swooning over. We are confident that the film will strike a chord with the audiences.” After disappearing from Mumbai’s underworld, Ojas Gambheera (OG) resurfaces after a decade to seek vengeance against rival crime lords. Directed by Sujeeth, Thaman has provided the music for the film. The trailer would be released in the presence of the entire team at an OG concert in Hyderabad on Sunday evening.

Teja Sajja’s recent release Mirai has joined the Rs 100 crore club within the first week of its release. The fantasy adventure opened to great response from all centres. And in North America too, especially in the U, Mirai registers healthy openings. The film was well received and the reception for the premiere too was promising. As a result, the Teja Sajja-starrer crossed a new milestone in terms of collections.

With Mirai crossing the landmark of $2.5 million collections in North America, the milestone enabled Teja Sajja to earn a unique distinction. After the blockbuster HanuMan, the actor followed up with another $2.5 M club. In the process, he became only the third actor to have back-to-back $2.5 M films in North America after Prabhas and Jr NTR. What more, With Mirai, Teja became a hot favourite among kids and families. “Teja is presently in the US and touring all the theatres. He is interacting with the audiences and has been warmly greeted by kids who have turned out in large numbers to get a glimpse of him. They also presented Teja artwork inspired by HanuMan and Mirai,” says an exhibitor in the US.

Mirai came like a package

After the blockbuster success of HanuMan, many wondered why Teja had chosen Mirai which also features elements of fantasy and devotion. Put this to the actor, he replies, “I always go by instincts when choosing scripts. I was fascinated by several elements in Mirai — action, adventure, drama, mother sentiment and devotion — so Mirai came to me like a package. The film’s VFX work took the narrative to the next level and today, the graphics became the film’s X factor,” said Teja, speaking to Filmfare. Adding, “Mirai has not just been a journey of collaborative effort, but I have learnt so many things about the craft and filmmaking.”

On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s latest film, Jolly LLB 3, has made a strong impact at the box office. The courtroom comedy-drama, which also stars Arshad Warsi, earned approximately 12.75 crore on its opening day. Building on positive word of mouth, the film saw a significant increase in collections on its second day, grossing around 20 crore Rs. As of the third day, the movie’s total earnings have surpassed 32 crores, with expectations to cross the 50 crore Rs mark by the end of the opening weekend.
